In the heart of the XP League, one name that stands out is Ricardo Mendes, captain of Bikini Bottoms FC. A natural striker with the versatility to adapt wherever his team needs him, Ricardo embodies the spirit of leadership both on and off the pitch. Although his team is still relatively new to XP, they have quickly become a side to watch.
The Journey to XP
Bikini Bottoms FC joined XP Arena towards the end of last season, making this their first official campaign in the league. Having played together for just three seasons, the squad was hungry for a new challenge after exhausting matchups in their previous competition. “The experience has been fantastic so far,” Ricardo shares. “We’re thrilled to be part of this league.”
Memorable Moments
Reflecting on his time at XP, Ricardo points to one game that defined his confidence and hunger. Against Boca two weeks ago, he netted an incredible six goals, including a highlight where he beat two defenders and nutmegged the keeper. “Although the scoreline didn’t reflect it, we were the better team that day,” he recalls proudly.
The Bikini Bottoms Identity
When asked to describe his team, Ricardo draws inspiration from Liverpool. “We play with heart, and everyone brings their own strengths. Together, it’s something special. We move the ball quickly, invite the press, and then hit teams on the counter.” It’s a style that has already earned them respect across the league.
Facing Challenges
Every strong team needs tough battles, and for Bikini Bottoms FC, VPFC provided exactly that. “They came prepared with reinforcements and gave us a great game. But we stepped up as a team and secured the win,” Ricardo says.
Beyond the Pitch
For Ricardo, XP isn’t just about football—it’s about community. “The atmosphere at XP is amazing. It’s a fun, safe space where I can bring my family to support us. The culture of football here brings everyone together.”
Off the field, Ricardo is a man of many talents. Music has been part of his life for as long as he can remember, and today he’s a versatile singer, songwriter, and performer who regularly graces world-class stages. He studied Jazz at UKZN, plays multiple instruments, and has released several singles, including his recent track Africa My Home. Over the years, he’s shared the stage with legends like Ernie Smith, Israel Houghton, and Marvin Winans. Alongside his music, he has also represented major brands in international campaigns, proving his versatility as both an artist and a model.
But Ricardo is also a family man, business owner, and community leader. Together with his wife Sasha, he runs 190 on Maple in Kyalami—a vibrant venue for birthdays, weddings, date nights, markets, and corporate events. His story is one of resilience and passion, from recovering against all odds after a rugby injury at 16 to balancing football, music, and entrepreneurship.
A Football Family
“XP is a family of everything football,” Ricardo says. “The hospitality is great, and they handle every situation with fairness and professionalism. That’s what keeps us coming back—we thrive on new challenges and want to beat every team possible.”
A Captain’s Message
Before wrapping up, Ricardo takes a moment to send a message of gratitude. “Thank you to XP for giving us this platform and to everyone who supports us. We truly appreciate it.” He also gives a spirited shoutout to his teammates—Jordan, Uriah, Kershan, Chad, Sina, Gito, Kg, and Connor—with his trademark rallying cry: “ARE YOU READY KIDS?!!!”
With passion, talent, and an unshakable bond, Bikini Bottoms FC is not just here to compete—they’re here to leave a mark on the XP League.

At XP Arena, football isn’t just about competition—it’s about community, passion, and the love of the game. This week, we shine the spotlight on Warren Booysens, a proud member of the XP Dads team, who has been bringing energy, skill, and good humor to the pitch since January 2025.
Growing Up with Football
Warren’s journey into football started early. Growing up in a community surrounded by six football fields, the game quickly became a central part of his life. “Playing and watching football was a big part of the community,” he reflects. That deep-rooted love for the sport is something he carries with him every time he steps onto the field.
Life with the XP Dads
Despite joking that the XP Dads are “just a bunch of dads trying to stay fit and have fun,” Warren is proud of how well his team has been performing. They’ve already secured a third-place finish in a highly competitive league, and Warren believes they have what it takes to finish number one in the Tuesday league.
When asked about their toughest opponents, he quickly names Stella FC in the Tuesday league and Marseille in the Thursday league—two teams that always bring a strong challenge.

The XP Arena Experience
For Warren, XP Arena is more than just a venue—it’s an experience. “There is always a good vibe on and off the pitch amongst the players,” he says. He highlights the live score updates on the website and the ability to track progress in the leagues as unique features that add to the excitement.
His favorite part about playing at XP Arena? The atmosphere. “Great vibe and the staff at XP is also amazing,” he shares. Describing XP Arena in three words, Warren keeps it simple but powerful: “Accessible, Affordable, Awesome.”
Beyond the Game
Football, for Warren, is about connection. “I love football and how it brings people together,” he says. That’s why he and his teammates only play at XP Arena, where they’ve built a footballing home. He also values how XP Arena supports the broader community, providing not only a place for adults to compete and socialize but also an academy for kids to develop their love for the sport.
Quickfire with Warren
• Favourite Team: XP Dads (no surprise there!)
• Pre-Match Ritual: Blasting some Eminem tracks while driving to the game.
• Most Memorable Goal: A cheeky back-heel finish at XP Arena.
• Funniest Teammates: “All of them. Yes really. Awesome bunch of dads.”
Final Word
For Warren Booysens, XP Arena isn’t just about chasing wins—it’s about staying active, building friendships, and being part of something bigger. With the XP Dads pushing hard for top spot this season, one thing is clear: win or lose, they’ll always bring the fun, energy, and spirit that make XP Arena truly special.
